Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Department of Field Support, Field Personnel Division, Recruitment, Outreach & Career Development Section. The intern will report to the Chief of Recruitment Unit and Occupational Group Managers.
The internship is for 5-6 months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns fork five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
The intern's role will be to assist Occupational Group Managers in coordinating a highly intensive recruitment drive over the coming months to fill hundreds of vacancies in peacekeeping missions across a range of occupational groups. Chief of Recruitment and Occupational Group Managers will delegate specific tasks including: formulating, updating and maintaining spreadsheets containing evolving candidate data; preparing and distributing mass e-mails to hundreds of applicants; receiving and filing candidate responses appropriately; scheduling interviews; copying and/or scanning of documents; mass data entry onto interview evaluation forms; project based assignments to improve systems; identify process efficiencies, etc.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university of higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications:
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals o the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and to be tolerant of differing opinions views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Knowledge of statistics and/or information systems would be highly desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
