Org. Setting and Reporting
This internship at the Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia, Incheon is for 3 months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
The SRO-ENEA was established by a UN General Assembly Resolution and was inaugurated on 17 May 2010 in Songdo, Incheon in the Republic of Korea to support the six member countries: China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation. SRO-ENEA is currently the only comprehensive multilateral hub for all six East and North-East Asian countries and also serves as the Secretariat of the North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation (NEASPEC).
Responsibilities
The intern will be assigned to conduct research on a data-intensive report on regional integration connectivity including trade, investment and transport in East and North-East Asia and assist in the implementation of related activities. Specific topics and works will be mutually agreed with his/her supervisor.
Data collection, compilation and dissemination
• Assembles original statistical material; adjusts reported data from different sources and loads data into computerized database system.
• Generates simple graphs, tables and statistical maps to facilitate further review and analysis of data by users or for reports and official publications.
• Participates in the review and compilation of background materials, e.g., previous survey material and results.
• Assists in the evaluation and examination of data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity.
• Updates statistical series in established formats. Applies new data and derived statistics, enter data on survey reports, and provides information for publication.
• Assists in liaising with United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information.
• Prepares data sets upon request; responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school(second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least fours years of full-studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. For UNESCAP, English is the working language. Knowledge of another language in the North-East Asia subregion (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Mongolian, or Russian) is an advantage.
