Setting and Reporting The Environment and Development Division/ Energy Security and Water Resources Section internship is for 2 months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Energy Security and Water Resources Section (ESWRS) is working to promote regional co-operation and to strengthen regional capacity on energy and water resources management towards inclusive sustainable socio-economic development for all in Asia and the Pacific. Responsibilities Under the general guidance of an Economics Affairs Officer, Energy Security and Water Resources Section, the intern will undertake the research and analysis in one of the following areas: 1. Regional cooperation for enhanced energy security and the sustainable use of energy in Asia and the Pacific. 2. Energy security challenges in Asia and the Pacific at the regional, national and household levels. 3. Regional perspectives on meeting three global objectives by 2030 - Ensuring universal access to modern energy services - Doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency -Doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. 4. Identifying policies, practices in applying energy economics, pricing, subsidies and tariffication 5. Identifying good practices in promoting PPP for sustainable energy development. Be computer literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Work Experience Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme.
