Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level.
Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (DTIE) works with international and nongovernmental organizations, national and local governments, business and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies and practices that are cleaner and safer, incorporate environmental costs, use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution and risks for humans and the environment, and enable the implementation of conventions and international agreements. This post is located in the Chemicals Branch of the DTIE in Geneva. Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Branch and the daily supervision of Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) Secretariat Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the following functions:
Responsibilities
Support the SAICM Coordinator, organize meetings, prepare meeting documents, coordinate venue arrangements, registration and travel;
In coordination with the Administrative Officer of the Chemicals Branch, DTIE, and UNEP Budget and Fund Management Services, prepare project documents and agreements for certification and signature to initiate approved Quick Start Programme (QSP) trust fund project;
Prepare project amendments to facilitate continuation of ongoing projects;
Declare open each application round, invite project proposals and undertake the initial screening for eligibility and completeness of project proposals;
Prepare project summaries for the consideration of the QSP Trust Fund Implementation Committee;
Prepare guidance to stakeholders in the initiation of project proposals;
Prepare meeting documents for major meetings such as conferences or inter-sessional regional meetings;
Monitor performance in relation to targets and indicators set out in the QSP business plan; Monitor project implementation by requesting and receiving project reports on a biannual basis and consolidating information for the consideration of the QSP Governing bodies; Perform any other duties as required.

Planning and Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies, identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing works.
Education
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in social sciences, public administration, business administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in programme management in a relevant field, including minimum of three years at the international level. Experience in governmental or intergovernmental organizations is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations official languages is an advantage.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview.

This is a project post with initial two years funding only and may be subject to extension .
