OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To eradicate poliomyelitis and reduce morbidity and mortality from diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, yellow fever and measles by providing support to immunization against these diseases and through other interventions. Immunization against other diseases may be added,
where applicable. Major emphasis will be placed on polio eradication activities.
Description of duties:
1. Provide security coverage for WHO personnel;
2. Provide security advice on WHO Polio operations in the country, notably with regard to access to unsafe areas, security situation, precautionary measures and action to be taken in case of security incident;
3. Ensure that UN field security policies and procedures are adhered to at all times by WHO staff;
4. Increase security awareness and conduct training for all WHO in accordance with WHO policies and UNDSS (UN Department of Safety and Security) standards;
5. Enhance communications capability for all WHO staff in all field locations and ensure their integration in the common UN communication network;
6.Brief staff on radio communication procedures, convoy procedures, security and evacuation
procedures and other security issues and precautions to be taken in accordance with the current measures prescribed by the Designated Official for Security in the country;
7. Establish and maintain continuous liaison with relevant security authorities;
8. Maintain close liaison with UN FSCO in the field and assist when required;
9. Maintain close liaison with NGOs in the field and assist when required;
10. Provide security coverage and advice to other WHO and UN System staff when required;
11. Report regularly on security issues to WHO Representatives and the Field Security Coordinator.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential
University degree (Bachelors degree or equivalent) preferably in business administration, security
management, political/social science, psychology or international relations and civilian police/military training combined with relevant field experience.
Skills:
Excellent knowledge of security/risk management methods combined with a background of military
or other security specialization. Good technical skills to understand and consolidate varying security specializations. Ability to work effectively with colleagues at national and international level.

Experience:
Essential
At least 7 years of progressive responsible experience in security management, preferably in police or military context. Demonstrated experience and exposure in international areas with security-related issues.
Desirable
Knowledge of UN policies, procedures and operations relating to security.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English required. Working knowledge of French and another WHO language would be an asset.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67 395 at single rate
USD 72 373 with primary dependants
