Cedefop invites applications for drawing up of a list of suitable candidates for the position of a JOURNALIST Initial contract period: 5 years AD 5 The job profile Cedefop is looking for a journalist to produce swiftly English texts on results of Cedefop’s work for different communication channels (press releases, newsletters, blogs and social media postings) that are easily understood by its specific target groups. Cedefop’s work is guided by its medium-term priorities. The priorities for 2012-14 are: 1. Supporting the modernisation of VET systems 2. Career and transitions – Continuing VET, adult learning and work-based learning 3. Analysing skills and competence needs to inform VET provision Reporting to the Head of Area, the jobholder will work in Area Communication, Information and Dissemination in close cooperation with colleagues working on external communication. JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The jobholder will be responsible for the following tasks: • Supporting the implementation of Cedefop’s communication policy; • Developing and monitoring Cedefop’s media and stakeholder communication plan in close cooperation with the operational areas; • Drafting and editing press releases, online news items and articles (newsletters, briefing notes); • Drafting news-related content for Cedefop’s web portal and social media (Facebook, Twitter, blogs); • Monitoring external communication activities, including analysis and regular reporting on outcomes; • Maintaining relations with the media, including responses to media enquiries, organising press conferences and arranging interviews of staff members with the media; • Managing Cedefop’s stakeholder contacts; • Developing and coordinating promotion material (brochures, posters, online ads) on Cedefop’s activities. FORMAL REQUIREMENTS To be considered eligible, applicants must: • Be a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union; • Have a level of university education which corresponds to completed university studies (of at least three years), attested by a diploma OR alternatively, professional training of an equivalent level; • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the Communities and satisfactory knowledge of another language of the Communities; • Enjoy full rights as a citizen; • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the laws on military service; • Be physically fit to perform the duties relating to the post. APPLICANTS WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING SELECTION CRITERIA • In addition to the formal requirements above, at least 3 years of full-time equivalent professional experience following the award of the university degree or the professional training; • Evidence of an excellent track record of having own work disseminated through various media (newspapers, magazines, journals, electronic media, radio, television, etc.) attested to by a portfolio of examples submitted with the application; • Good knowledge and expertise of media relations; • Excellent English drafting and editing skills to produce texts for different target audiences; • Fluency in spoken English; • Experience of using social media; • Ability to work under pressure, self-manage responsibilities and keep tight deadlines; • Good organisational and interpersonal skills; • Good oral and written presentation skills. Contractual conditions The contract is for 5 years with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will be recruited in grade AD 5. The basic monthly salary for grade AD 5 (step 1) is approximately € 4300. The salary is subject to a salary weighting (currently 94.8%) and a Community tax deducted at source but is exempt from national taxation. In addition, staff members may be entitled to various allowances such as household allowance, expatriation allowance, dependent child and education allowance.
