The Nuclear Reactor Safety Assessment Unit (NRSA) in Petten is looking for a contractual agent to carry out various scientific tasks in support to the Nuclear Reactor Accident Analyses and Modeling (NURAM) action. The JRC Action NURAM is built on four pillars, namely Accident Analyses with a special focus on Severe Accident for Gen II&III and Gen IV NPPs Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMGs) harmonization for EU NPPs Safety Assessment of innovative Reactors (based on LWRs, SFRs, LFRs or GFRs technologies) Support to evolving EU legislation and development of highest Safety Standards in the EU We propose To reinforce the JRC capabilities in the area of Severe Accident Analyses and Severe Accident Management, the JRC is looking for a dynamic, experienced and motivated expert in this field. The fellow will develop specific research tasks with the following objectives: Perform Severe Accident Analyses to improve knowledge on safety and risks of operating Nuclear Power Plants in the EU and of Innovative reactors (based on LWRs, SFRs, LFRs or GFRs technologies) especially taking into account recent lessons learned from the Fukushima accident Contribute to the development of a harmonized approach to the review of the Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMG) which is expected to be implemented at EU NPPs as one of the post-Fukushima actions The work to be performed will involve close collaboration with the different Research Centre and Technical Support Organizations (TSO) from the European Union and abroad. We look for The candidate must be on a valid EPSO reserve list for Function Group IV auxiliary contract staff. Candidates who have already worked within the Commission for three years as auxiliary contract staff members are NOT eligible. For this position, we are seeking a highly motivated individual with relevant experience in the Nuclear Industry, Technical Support Organization or Research Center and having: Competence and expertise in the area of Thermo-hydraulics, neutronics or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Knowledge of Nuclear Power Plant Design and Operation would be an asset Capacity to achieve results under tight deadlines, good communication and sense of initiative Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to operate effectively across organizational boundaries and establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
