Setting and Reporting The position is located in the Anti-Discrimination Section; Rule of Law, Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch; Research and Rights to Development Division in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Section. Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Chief of the Rule of Law, Equality and Non Discrimination Branch (ROLENDB) and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Anti-Discrimination Section, the incumbent will: -Prepare reports and documents on subjects relating to the implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA), the Outcome Document of the Durban Review Conference and contribute to the work of related mechanisms; -Participate in the organizational and substantive aspects of meetings, seminars, and symposia etc. planned or supported by OHCHR; -Undertake substantive research on issues related to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance; -Assist in the organization of public information and awareness raising activities; -Foster and maintain active engagement and cooperation with relevant national and international actors, including with civil society; -Undertake equality and non-discrimination capacity-building, training and advisory services as appropriate to governments actors, national institutions and civil society and perform any other assignments as directed by the Chief of the Anti-Discrimination Section. Competencies PROFESSIONALISM – Very good knowledge of and exposure to human rights issues and in particular to issues related to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance; Knowledge of the Durban follow-up mechanisms and processes; Knowledge of the UN institutional mandates, policies and guidelines related to human rights; Good analytical and research skills, including ability to evaluate and integrate information from a variety of sources and make sound assessment. Good knowledge of project management; COMMUNICATION - Strong communication (spoken, written and presentational) skills, including the ability to produce written reports in a clear, concise style, to make presentations to external audiences, to build/maintain effective partnerships; PLANNING AND ORGANISING - Ability to establish priorities and to plan work assignments, juggle competing demands and work under pressure of tight deadlines; TEAMWORK - Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Education Advanced University Degree preferably in law, political science, international relations or other disciplines related to human rights. A combination of relevant academic qualifications and qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree Work Experience At least 5 years of progressive work experience at national and international level in human rights or related fields. Experience with project development and implementation would be an asset. Languages Fluency in oral and written English; working knowledge of French or other UN language is an asset. Assessment Method Candidates will be assessed through an eliminatory written test and a competency-based interview.
