Description and Desired Qualifications
Summary of job purpose:
To perform biodiversity impact studies including Appropriate Assessments (AA) and be involved in the development Environmental Impact Assessments required for permitting and/or financing of industrial and infrastructure projects or other environmental projects.
The priorities of this role include:
• to conduct field surveys to collect information about the numbers and distribution of organisms;
• to collect and manage biological information
• to produce taxonomy - classifying organisms;
• to apply sampling strategies and employ a range of habitat survey techniques, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), aerial photography, records and maps;
• to carry out environmental impact assessments;
• to analyze and interpreting data, using specialist software programs;
• to analyze impact on biodiversity
• to write reports including appropriate assessment studies and issuing recommendations;
• to liaise with and advising site managers, engineers, planners and others associated with a survey;
• to build relationships with stakeholders, including members of the public;
• to keep up to date with new environmental policies and legislation;
• to interact, establish and maintain effective working relation with a diverse team
• to set priorities, produces quality outputs, meet deadlines and manage time efficiently
• to initiate and cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• to promote positive relationships with government agencies.
Basic Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following:
University degree in a relevant field for conservation work (ecology, natural resources management) with consistent professional specialization in issues of Protected areas (PAs);
Extensive knowledge of Protected Areas (PAs) issues, including legal and policy frameworks, PAs management effectiveness (including community involvement and capacity issues), PAs planning (including business planning) and ecological monitoring systems for PAs ;
Advanced degree in environmental sciences, biodiversity, ecology, environmental studies, biology, or other relevant field required.
Significant experience with biodiversity issues (min 5 years);
Mapping experience;
Good understanding of the local market, environment sector;
Solid English and Romanian language skills;
Full computer literacy;
Communicates creative ideas and concepts persuasively with the ability to get buy in from internal & external decision makers
Understands existing needs, reacts to identified future needs & provides value added solutions to existing and future clients
Is able to adapt their approach to the needs of different clients and markets
Ability to distinguish between the urgent & the important with the ability to act on priorities
Takes responsibility for targets and delivers on commitments.

Bachelors or 4 Year Degree, Masters
