ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT

The European Banking Authority is seeking suitable candidates for the position as an Accounting Assistant who, under the responsibility of the Accounting Officer, will play an important role in supporting all activities related to accounting.
Job description
Main purpose
Support and assistance to the Accounting Officer in the execution of ccounting and related financial tasks.
Main responsibilities:
Providing support and assistance in day-to-day operations in the full spectrum of accounting activities including:
· Execution of payments
· Recovery of expenses and VAT
· Validation/examination of recovery orders
· Control of financial transactions (payments, salaries, recoveries)
· Data collection and revision for financial reporting
· Bank reconciliation, accounts reconciliation
· Coordination of financial assets inventory related tasks
· Monthly closure of the accounts an preparation of year-end closing accounts up to establishment of annual accounts/financial statements (accruals, budgetary and other intermediary reports)
· Coordination of financial activities with the EBA’ s operations (finance, procurement, HR, logistics)
· Coordination with and reporting to EBA’ s member organisations, the European Commission’ s services, the European Court of Auditors and other external stakeholders
· Execution of any other tasks as required by the Accounting Officer.
Requirements
1. Eligibility Criteria
Candidates will be considered eligible for selection on the basis of the following criteria to be fulfilled by the deadline for applications:
1.1. General:
· Thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the European Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the European Union;
· Be a national of a Member State of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, and Lichtenstein;
· Be entitled to his/her full rights as a citizen;
· Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws on military service;
· Be physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post.
1.2. Specific:
1.2.1. Qualifications:
To be eligible, a candidate must have completed university studies of accounting, finance, or audit of at least three years attested by a diploma and appropriate professional experience of at least one year.
1.2.2. Professional experience:
Candidates must have, in addition to above, at least three years proven fulltime professional experience in a similar position/s after completing the education.
1.2.3. Knowledge of languages:
For working purposes an excellent knowledge of English language (written and spoken) is required.
2. Selection criteria
In addition to the above, the candidate must have:
· Knowledge of the EC Financial Regulations and their implementing rules, preferably for EU bodies (agencies);
· Experience in accounting and finance in an EU institution;
· Knowledge of EU financial procedures and terminology;
· Expert knowledge SAP;
· Expert knowledge of MS Office, especially spreadsheet applications ( MS Excel);
For this position the candidates are expected to fulfil the following competencies:

It would be advantageous for the candidate to have
· Additional accounting qualification such as ACCA, AAT, CIMA, ACA, or IFA
· Experience in ABAC Assets, ABAC Workflow, Sage Line 50
· Experience and background in auditing
· Experience in other relevant functions in the EU institutions
· Knowledge of the European Union, its policies and institutions.
Contract type, duration and starting date:
The successful candidate can be offered a contract agent fixed-term contract of three years with a probation period of nine months, with the possibility of extension.
Starting date: as soon as possible.
The selected candidate will be invited to be available at a short notice.
Function group and grade:
The successful candidate recruited under a fixed term contract shall be appointed at grade FG IV.
The estimated monthly basic salary is from € 3,145.45
Summary of the conditions of employment
· Salaries are exempted from national tax; instead a Community tax at source is paid;
· The correction coefficient (currently on the date of publication of the vacancy notice: 34.4%) applicable to the remuneration of officials and other servants under Article 64 of the Staff Regulations for the United Kingdom shall apply;
· Depending on the individual family situation and the place of origin, staff members may be entitled to the following: expatriation allowance, household allowance, dependent child allowance, education allowance, installation allowance and reimbursement of removal costs, initial temporary daily subsistence allowance, and other benefits;
· Annual leave entitlement - two days per calendar month plus additional days for age, grade, and distance from the place of origin;
· EU Pension Scheme (after 10 years of service);
· EU Joint Sickness and Insurance Scheme, accident and occupational disease insurance coverage, unemployment and invalidity allowance; and
· Travel insurance when travelling on missions.
